File sharing
with control

Share files and folders with password-protected, expiring links, and revoke access at any time.

How it works

How secure sharing works

1. Create a link

Right-click any file or folder and choose Share. Pick read-only or upload, set an optional password and expiry.

2. Add guard rails

Set a password, expiry date and download limit. Revoke any link instantly. IP allowlist, dynamic watermark and link 2FA are on the roadmap.

3. Track and revoke

See exactly who opened, downloaded or uploaded, with IP and timestamp. Revoke access instantly without touching the file.

Create a share link with password and expiry

Right-click any file or folder and choose Share. Set an optional password, an expiry date and a download limit in a single dialog, with no nested settings menus.

  • Optional password protection
  • Custom expiry and download limits
  • Read-only or upload permissions

Share a folder with external people

Share any folder with clients, contractors or other external people. Recipients do not need a vBoxxCloud account to open a public share link, only the URL and password if set.

  • No vBoxxCloud account needed
  • Read-only or upload access
  • Every download logged with IP and timestamp

Revoke a share link at any time

Open the file's sharing panel and click Revoke. The share link becomes unusable immediately, even for people who already opened it, without touching the file itself.

  • Revoke access in one click
  • Link stops working immediately
  • Audit log of opens and downloads
Use cases

Common sharing scenarios

Client deliverables

Send a report with a password and a 14-day expiry, see exactly when the client opened it, revoke when the project ends.

External reviewers

Give read-only access to a folder of source files, no account needed, full audit log on download.

Upload requests

Collect documents from candidates or suppliers through an upload-only link, files land directly in the right folder.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I revoke a share link after sending it?
Yes, open the file's sharing panel and click Revoke. The link becomes unusable immediately, even for users who already opened it.
Do recipients need a vBoxxCloud account?
No. Public share links work for anyone with the URL (and password if set).
Can I see who opened a share link?
Yes. The audit log records every open, download and upload event with IP address and timestamp, exportable as CSV.
Are share links GDPR-compliant?
When configured with password and expiry, share links meet GDPR Article 32 requirements for secure transmission.
Can I limit who in my team can create share links?
Yes. Admins can restrict external sharing per folder, per team or workspace-wide, and require approval for high-sensitivity content.
What happens to a link when an employee leaves?
Admins can transfer or revoke all links owned by a departing user in one action, so no orphaned shares remain after offboarding.
